Here at the Inn, August is one of our favorite times of year. Guests linger a little longer over breakfast, return from Peninsula State Park with sandy shoes and happy faces, and end the day on the porch or tucked into one of our cozy rooms or cottages after a full day out in Fish Creek. If you’re planning an August getaway, here’s what to look forward to.

No August visit to Fish Creek is complete without time in Peninsula State Park. It’s one of Door County’s crown jewels, and for good reason. You can spend a full day there and still feel like you’ve only scratched the surface. Hike along wooded trails, rent bikes, wander to overlooks, pack a picnic, visit the beach, or climb the Eagle Tower for one of the best views in the county.

A few favorite August ways to enjoy the park:

• Bike the Sunset Trail for a classic Door County afternoon

• Hike Eagle Trail if you’re up for something rugged and scenic

• Spend time at Nicolet Beach with a book, snacks, and no strict plans

• Climb Eagle Tower for sweeping views of the shoreline and treetops

• Pack a picnic and make a whole afternoon of it

Peninsula Players Theatre, located between Fish Creek and Egg Harbor, is a beloved Door County tradition. Their beautiful wooded setting makes the experience feel like more than just a night at the theater.

Northern Sky Theater is another must if you love original musical theater with heart, humor, and a strong sense of place. Their summer performances are a favorite for visitors and locals alike.

If you’re coming in August, it’s wise to check schedules and reserve tickets ahead of time. Summer seats can fill quickly.

August is a wonderful time to enjoy Door County’s farms, markets, orchards, and roadside stands. Depending on the week, you may find cherries, berries, peaches, sweet corn, tomatoes, fresh flowers, baked goods, jams, honey, and plenty of locally made treats.

Even if you’re not planning to cook, it’s worth stopping for a basket of fruit, a jar of something homemade, or a snack for the beach. There’s something very August about eating fresh cherries or peaches after a day outdoors.

A traditional Door County fish boil is one of those experiences that visitors talk about long after they return home. It’s part meal, part local tradition, part show…especially when the flames rise at the end!

Fish Creek and the surrounding area have several places where you can enjoy this classic supper. If you’ve never been, August is the perfect time to try it. Come hungry.

Morning: Wake up slowly at the Inn, enjoy breakfast, then head to Peninsula State Park for a hike or bike ride.

Midday: Cool off at Nicolet Beach or stop for lunch in Fish Creek.

Afternoon: Browse local shops and galleries, visit the harbor, or take a scenic drive up the peninsula.

Evening: Enjoy dinner in town, catch a performance, or head to the water for sunset.

Night: Return to the Inn, unwind, and sleep well after a full Door County day.
