Door County Dreaming

Springtime renewal means so much for many of us, especially in light of the ongoing Covid pandemic. Yet also for many of us, there is anticipation that 2021 will be filled with hope, healing, and dare I say–normalcy? Indeed, we are not out of the woods yet with Covid, yet we can look to a brighter future. For us at Thorp House Inn, we are humbled by all the guests that decide to vacation and come to stay with us. Whether far or near, we welcomed a record number of guests this winter and early spring. And our summer and fall reservations are at a pace we have never seen. All this and we are still vigilant about our cleaning processes and CDC recommendations–guest safety is a priority for us.

New updates for us include bringing in our young adult children–Emilio and Sofia, and Sofia’s friend Ana to work full time at the inn. So we really are a family business now! Since spring came early this year we jumped on some projects at the inn to make your experience warm and welcoming. We are nearly complete with our annual deep spring cleaning of the entire inn and cottages.

We repaired and painted some areas, renewed some of the floors, installed new historical windows for Jessie and Maria, and brought in all new outdoor grills and chairs for the cottages. However, one of the biggest improvements came in increasing our king bed availability. Nowhere was this felt the most than in our Jessie room. We refinished the floors and tub surround, installed a new king bed, and reupholstered 2 antique chairs. Along with the new windows, Jessie has undergone a beautiful makeover.

We also placed a stunning new four poster king bed in Everil. The previous bed in Everil was moved to Dove–providing the first and only king bed for our cottages. Dove also received an all new tile hearth for the fireplace. Looking to the future we developed a longer term landscaping plan and will begin implementing it this spring and summer. And we are not the only ones with changes–Fish Creek is working on phase 2 of the beach project, which will update and beautify this popular destination. We also have several new restaurants either already open or will be for this season!

And for things to do…all the area parks are open for visitors and adventurers alike–Eagle Tower in Peninsula State Park is set to open this spring. Area golf courses are accepting tee times for this season, and both Peninsula Players and Northern Sky Theaters are working on final plans to open this year!

So as you can see there is a lot to look forward to and we would love to have you come visit us this summer or fall. Even though we are booking up quickly, we do have availability this season.

We can’t wait to see you in Door County this year!

All the best,
Matt Ranzau
