A Movable Feast - Fish Creek's Historic Inns' 14th Annual Progressive Dinners

A movable feast is the best way to describe a gourmet dinner that begins at one of Fish Creek's three historic inns, continues on to a second for the main course, then finishes at the third for dessert. Plan now to attend one of these special weekends as guests of the Thorp House Inn – where all the fun begins!

On Friday evening of each weekend, guests of the Thorp House Inn, Cottages and Beach House are invited to a "Wine and Cheese Reception" at the Inn where our guests can meet, mingle and toast the weekend.

Saturday night the festivities begin at 5:15pm with hors d'oeuvres, champagne and live music at the Thorp House Inn – built in 1902 by Freeman Thorp, of the founding family of Fish Creek. Following Freeman's death in 1903, his home served as "tourist lodging" to support his widow Jessie. And it has remained a guest house ever since! Cottages were added in the 30's and 40’s. All of the buildings are listed in the National Register of Historic Places.

Following the appetizer course, dinner guests will be transported to the White Gull Inn by horse-drawn wagon. The White Gull celebrated its 100th birthday in 1996. Built by Dr. Herman and Henriette Welcker.  The White Gull Inn is the oldest continuing operating inn in Door County. Dinner at the White Gull will be an occasion to remember – with an elaborate salad and main course specially chosen for the Progressive Dinner weekends. Again, live musical entertainment will add to the festive ambiance of the evening.

Dinner guests will then stroll down to the Whistling Swan Inn for dessert accompanied by seasonal music performed on the Swan's original baby grand piano. Built in 1887 in Marinette, Wisconsin, the Whistling Swan was moved across the frozen waters of Green Bay in 1907 to its current location. In 1986 the Whistling Swan was fully renovated and now offers lodging and a gourmet restaurant.

The "Progressive Dinner" is open to weekend guests of the Thorp House Inn, White Gull Inn or the Whistling Swan Inn.
